50 new firms registered in Epsom and Ewell in September, the fewest since December, but six were food businesses: twice August's three.

Fifty new companies were registered at addresses in Epsom and Ewell in September. That is the lowest monthly total since December 2025, and down from 74 in both August and September last year.

Food and drink went the other way. Six of September’s new companies are cafés, restaurants or takeaways, double August’s three.

The figures come from the Companies House register. We counted every company incorporated between 1 and 30 September with a registered office inside the borough, from Epsom town centre out to Ewell, Stoneleigh, Langley Vale and the borough’s side of Worcester Park. The register was searched on 6 October.

The new cafés and takeaways

Every company gives at least one trade code when it registers. These six chose a food code:

Company Registered Street Trade code
Wok Out Ltd 8 September Chessington Road, West Ewell Takeaway
East Forest Ltd 14 September Ruxley Lane Takeaway
Curry Lab London Ltd 20 September The Derby Square, Epsom Takeaway
J Sauced It Ltd 22 September Chessington Road Takeaway
Broadway Caffe Ltd 23 September Stoneleigh Broadway Café
VMask Sales Ltd 30 September Kingston Road Takeaway

Three of the six match a business already on the Food Standards Agency’s register at the same address.

Curry Lab is one of five kitchens at the Epsom Social food hall on The Derby Square that the FSA register lists as awaiting their first inspection. The other four are Ciao Kitchen, Cluck And Crusts Epsom, Hook & Crisp and Wefumo. Five other food businesses listed at the same address were last inspected between April 2025 and March 2026.

Broadway Caffe Ltd gives 52 Stoneleigh Broadway. That is the address of the Broadway Cafe, which the council’s inspectors rated 4 out of 5 on 25 August.

Wok Out Ltd gives 173 Chessington Road. The FSA register lists the Orissa restaurant there, rated 4 on 18 November 2025.

A new company at a trading address does not by itself mean a change of owner or a new menu. It can mean a business has incorporated, or that a new operator is taking over. The register does not say which.

A few more new companies are the kind residents might use:

  • Barber Mate Ltd (2 September, Kingston Road, Ewell) and Trimz Ltd (23 September, Ruxley Lane), both hairdressing
  • Seven Cars Sales Ltd (22 September, Station Approach), car sales
  • Epsom Valeting Centre (1 September, Stamford ward), valeting. The register spells its name “Epsom Valenting Centre BA Ltd”.
  • Pure Vibez Dance Co. Ltd (28 September), performing arts
  • Kaizen Footballers Ltd (25 September), sports coaching

Where the fall came from

Property and building firms account for most of the drop. In August the borough gained 11 new property companies and nine building firms. In September it gained three and two.

Trade (first code listed) September August
Consulting and professional services 8 12
Retail, wholesale and motor trade 7 16
IT and software 6 5

One quiet month is not a trend. The borough has gained between 43 and 83 new companies a month over the past year, 786 in all, or about 66 a month.

Where they are

Town ward, which covers Epsom town centre, had 21 of the 50. Ewell Court and Stoneleigh had five each. By postcode, KT19 had 19, KT17 had 17, KT18 had 12 and the borough’s part of KT4 had two.

Five of the town centre’s 21 gave the same address: 8-10 South Street. The register lists 571 active companies at its postcode, so it is a registered-office address used by firms that trade elsewhere. The five include a lettings company and a car repairer with Redhill in its name.

Using a professional’s address is ordinary practice. It keeps a director’s home address off a public database. A registered office is where official post goes, not necessarily where the business trades.

What it means for you

  • If you run a food business, you must register it with the council at least 28 days before you start trading. GOV.UK’s registration page explains how. Inspectors then visit and give a rating.
  • New places to eat show up on the FSA register as “awaiting inspection” before they get a score. You can search the ratings by street.
  • Any company on this list can be looked up free on the register, including its directors, its accounts once filed, and any change of address.

How we counted

We searched the Companies House register for every company incorporated in September 2026 with a registered office in the KT4, KT17, KT18 or KT19 postcode areas, or with Epsom or Ewell in the address. We then checked each postcode against postcodes.io, which uses the Office for National Statistics postcode directory, and kept only those inside Epsom and Ewell borough. That removed 41 companies in Sutton, Kingston, Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead and further afield. August 2026, September 2025 and the monthly figures in the chart were counted the same way, on the same day.

Each company is grouped by the first trade code it lists. Companies that have since been dissolved are still counted in the month they were formed.
